Delicious Healthy Quinoa Pizza Crust

Just because you want to be healthier, or more fit doesn't mean you have to completely sacrifice taste. Eating healthy often times means you just have to be more creative.

People have been bugging me to post my recipes for awhile, so I've slapped together this blog to give you a 'taste' of my recipes.

The first recipe is a healthy alternative to Pizza Crust. It is made from quinoa and a few other ingredients and cooks up really nicely. If you are missing pizza on your "diet" this recipe is awesome.

Healthy Pizza Crust Alternative: Quinoa Pizza Shell

This recipe will make 1 Quinoa Pizza Shell. What you put on it is up to you, but when I made mine I was having a cheat meal, so I used ham and pineapple.

The shell on this has Quinoa pizza has roughly 805 calories. 30 grams of protein and around 120g carbohydrates. Adding 1/2 cup of pizza sauce will add an additional 60 calories, and another 1/3 of a cup of low fat mozza will add another 80 cals.

Quinoa Pizza Shell Ingredients:
  • 1 cup cooked quinoa
  • 1 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/3 cup shredded low fat mozzarella cheese
  • 1 clove crushed garlic garlic
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano

Quinoa Pizza Crust Cooking Instructions:

Pre-Heat over to 350 degrees.

Cook the Quinoa! If you don't know how to cook the quinoa, follow this recipe.

Once you've cooked the quinoa, take all the ingredients above and toss them into a bowl. Mix the hell out of it with your hands.

Take the make shift quinoa dough and throw it on a pizza sheet. Make sure you put some flour or light oil on the bottom of the pan otherwise your crust is definitely going to stick.

Toss the crust in the oven by itself for 10 minutes or so, just to harden it up a bit.

Remove from oven, apply some pizza sauce, another 1/3 cup of low fat mozza and what ever other ingredients you feel like eating then toss it back in the oven until the cheese is golden brown.

As I mentioned above, I put ham and pineapple on my quinoa pizza crust. If I was to eat this normally, I probably would have loaded it up with chicken breast, but I was craving ham and pineapple, so I rolled with it.

Remove and serve. Delicious!
